Geek Inspired: Vis-à-V

Inspired by "V" and "V for Vendetta"

Inspired by "V" and "V for Vendetta"

The letter of the day is “V”, with lots of sci-fi and political drama coinciding.  The ABC show V aired recently, a show about aliens who promise to fix all of humanity’s problems…but what’s their real motive?  Today is also Guy Fawkes Day, which conjures memories of V from the Alan Moore graphic novel, V for Vendetta.  With so many “V”s floating around, I was inspired to put together a collage of products that embody the danger and drama of the infamous letter!

Geek Inspired: Sick Geek

Sick Geek Care Package

Sick Geek Care Package

Guh, everyone.  I am quite the sick geek today, with a fever and lots of coughing.  I was inspired to highlight some items for sick geeks who may need a bit of cheering up!  They make great gifts to help a sick geek recover (or recover their sense of humor at least).

Geek Inspired: Dr. Horrible

Inspired by Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible

I cannot express how much I heart Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog, the online musical by Joss Whedon about a small time villain struggling to become one of the big bads.   This style set can help bring out the musical villain in everyone, with Horrible references both direct and inspired by his mad scientist persona!

Geek Inspired: Cabin in the Woods

Cabin in the Woods: Inspired by Horror

Cabin in the Woods: Inspired by Horror

A staple of many horror movies is the ominous cabin in the woods, where kids are stalked by demons, zombies, and serial killers.  There’s even an upcoming horror movie by Joss Whedon that’s named for the trope.   It’s a visually beautiful setting for horror, with trees and woodland creatures you can enjoy while you shake off the feeling that you’re being watched from the underbrush.  Combined with the ensuing bloodstains, a horror flick with a cabin in the woods is set to terrify and inspire!

Inspired by Where the Wild Things Are

I remember reading Where the Wild Things Are as a child, but I only began to appreciate the artwork and story as an adult.  With the release of the movie, it’s a great excuse to explore childhood again with stylish goods fit for a king!  Let the wild rumpus commence after the break:

Brutal Legend from Double Fine Productions

The much anticipated Brütal Legend came out this week, created by the always awesome Double Fine Productions and starring Jack Black.  As a big fan of Psychonauts, I’m really looking forward to this game.  The visuals look amazing and the story is unique, so I say rock on!  Here are some pieces that get me in the mood for metal:

Geek Inspired: DNA

DNA products

Inspired by DNA

If you ever wanted to see your own nucleotides, now is the time!  DNA is hip and stylish, with a variety of products representing the human body’s building blocks.  Some can even be personalized: with a swab of cheek cells, a laboratory can create a unique piece of art based entirely on you.  DNA’s iconic double helix shape and telltale lines make great graphic accessories for your home, office, or outfit.

The Pantone leather chair, printed by Sif Technology, has been making the rounds on several blogs recently.  Unfortunately it’s not for sale, but you can use its Pantone-patterned array of colors to find comparable pixelated material.

Geek Inspired: Cubes of Q*bert

Inspired by Q*bert

Inspired by Q*bert

I actually still have my old Atari 2600 in the garage, though I doubt it still works. One of the classic games in the old Atari arsenal was Q*bert, the platform game involving jumping between graphic cubes. The visuals were colorful and the geometric patterns have lived on to this day.
