1) Spring 2010: Alexander McQueen
I saved the weirdest and wildest for last! Alexander McQueen’s show is definitely weird and wild, with a panoply of sci-fi and fantasy imagery. Based on the legend of Plato’s Atlantis, McQueen’s collection imagines humans returning to the ocean and re-adapting to the ecosystem. It’s basically the premise behind Waterworld, but McQueen blows it out of the water with his awesomeness. See the evidence after the break:
2) Spring 2010: Rodarte
The sword and sandal sub-genre is all the rage in the collection by Rodarte(Kate and Laura Mulleavy). From tribal tattoos to leather lacing, the show screams “ancient warrior woman” a la Xena and Red Sonja. With the help of dry ice mist and an unearthly green light, Rodarte transforms the runway into a fantasy world of witches, warriors, and apocalyptic wonder. There are glimpses of both Highlander and Mad Max in the mix as well:
3) Spring 2010: Gareth Pugh
Gareth Pugh’s show is space-age goth, with everything from zany headdresses to shiny sci-fi garb. It invokes several genre giants, from Tim Burton to Star Trek, and even gives an unintentional ode to Silent Hill: the headdress on the model above reminds me of a tiny Pyramid Head with wings. One outfit looked inspired by the Romulans in Star Trek: Next Generation:
4) Spring 2010: Gucci
Frida Giannini’s collection for Gucci is a mix of streamlined sci-fi and modern sporty attire, reminiscent of the zany science fiction movie The Fifth Element. The first dress down the catwalk resembles the bandage outfit Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) sported in her first scenes of the movie:
5) Spring 2010: Jonathan Saunders
Partially inspired by the Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In, Jonathan Saunders’s collection is pale and muted with pops of vibrant color. None of the film’s darkness is encapsulated in the collection, but the whiteness of the snowy landscape and the paleness of both vampire and human is captured perfectly. The makeup and hair of the models is simple and reminiscent of the main characters of the movie:
Spring 2010 Ready To Wear
Apocalyptic sci-fi and gothic romance made big splashes in this year’s Spring 2010 Ready To Wear fashion shows. From Gucci to Versace, designers gleaned inspiration from fantasy, horror, and apocalyptic sci-fi to create beautiful and otherworldly pieces. This week, I’ll be counting down my Favorite 5 Fashion Shows and how their looks intersect with science fiction and fantasy.
And who knows: maybe the fashion of today will become a staple of the science fiction of tomorrow!

Scribblenauts: Wordsmith Wardrobe
Scribblenauts is a very cute, fun game, and the character designs are all unique and adorable. The main character, Maxwell, has a great outfit with lots of cool greens and blues, topped with a fiery red hat to give him some contrast. It’s kooky yet comfortable, so an outfit inspired by his duds includes cashmere, flats, and philosoraptors (aka. a velociraptor). Check out his hat as well: if you didn’t get one when you ordered the game, there are a few on ebay.

Adamantium Turkey Carver
Today is Thanksgiving in Canada, so I thought I’d do a tribute to the most beloved and badass Canadian superhero, Wolverine:
The Wolverine Hockey Tee from Urban Outfitters ($19.99) is as uncanny as the X-Men, and the Wolverine Skull Pendant Necklace by mrd74 ($40.00) would be a slyly literal addition to any Wolverine paraphernalia.
Happy Turkey Day, Canadians!
Guns and Roses
Bullet Proof Rose Brooch by Tobias Wong for $170: Made from bullet proof Kevlar and with a name like a John Woo movie, it’s a beautiful accessory that can protect you during your next gunfight.
Crystal Werewolf Killer- Clear Quartz Crystal Silver Bullet Necklace (.40 Caliber) by leoravon for $48.00: It kills werewolves. Therefore, it is awesome.
Batman: Arkham Asylum Attire
The new Batman game, Arkham Asylum, is pretty awesome, as everyone and their video game playing dog has asserted these past few weeks. However, the real highlight of most Batman series are the flamboyant but sinister villains: two female villains, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, appear in Arkham Asylum in some sexy new duds to match their villainy. However, if the style of a crazy clown and a floral femme fatale is too risque, I’ve come up with two outfits inspired by their famous Batman eccentricity!
